18K Gold PVD on Titanium
“Every Change is difficult in the beginning, messy in the middle and gorgeous in the end” ROBIN SHARMA
Back in our February Newsletter we have announced the change from 24K to 18K Gold PVD color.
While we understand that it might be inconvenient to implement those changes, we believe 18K is the better choice as not only will it match our real 18Karat Solid Gold Piercings, but other jewels your customer may already have.
Our designer, Bella R. says, “The color itself being a very intense yellow was not matching any other items customers may have had on their ears when they walked into our Piercing Studio.
My frustration grew when end customers preferred mixing Real Gold items with our BG PVD on Titanium or NF.
When we create an ear curation, we are often missing some parts or wish to easily combine materials and not to be limited by one metal or the other.
My wish is simply to fulfill the dream of having no restrictions whatsoever on how we combine things to achieve perfect ear curations”.
Gold PVD items explained
18K or 24K real Gold is coated using a PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) process.
During this process, the jewelry is placed in a heated chamber under a high vacuum. An electric voltage is applied, creating plasma within the chamber. Introduction of various gases leads to ion bombardment, which atomizes the cathode material (18K or 24K real gold) into tiny particles. These particles are then deposited onto the jewelry, resulting in a durable and biocompatible layer.
Our surgical steel items are coated with 24K real gold, while our titanium and CoCr Nickel Free items are coated with 18K real gold (matching Solid 18K Gold).
Did you know?
Due to the softness of gold, it must be alloyed with harder metals like silver or copper to be used for Body Jewelry. The purity of gold is measured in karat, with 24kcarats equal to 100% pure gold and 18-karat gold representing an alloy containing 750 parts gold per 1000 (therefore the German Name ‘750er Gold’).
